Heritage Park Horse Trials
This year's Heritage Park was full of a lot of move ups and a lot of first timers. JWE had a great show and nothing is more satisfying then closing the 2014 show season with a bang. Thanks to all the volunteers for making this local event a success and a HUGE thanks to all the parents for putting up with all of us during the season, we couldn't have done it without you!
The most improved award is going to be shared between Audrey Senter and her horse Chester and Julia Fraley and her pony Jesse. Before this event Chester hadn't gone xc without jump refusals. Audrey worked really hard this summer making Chester jump everything known to man and the hard work paid off. Audrey and Chester went double clear and the smile Audrey had on her face as she crossed the finish line was priceless. Congrats Audrey!
This was Julia and Jesse's first event and we knew we had our hands full to get through it. Jesse is known for deciding he has had enough of jumping and can have a little pony attitude…Julia rode extremely well and piloted Jessie around a clear cross country round and I do believe Jesse was getting hugs and kisses for many hours after. Congrats on your hard work Julia!
For me this event was just a nice, easy and pressure free show. I decided to move Azul up to training since he had gone to just about every novice horse trial in the US. I had no expectations going into Heritage and let me tell you it was probably the most fun I have ever had at an event. For anyone who knows Azul, he is a little immature thoroughbred that is still figuring out where his feet are. I knew he was going to lay down a great dressage test but to be honest I didn't know what he was going to think about with the higher and more complicated questions on cross country. I went out with the mind set of whatever happens happens and I wasn't going to be too disappointed if we had a green moment on course. Long story short I was the person on course petting her horse after each jump with a smile and saying "good boy". I was just so happy with how grown up he felt and how he was trusting me the whole way around, it made me realize why I love this sport so much. Come Sunday I had the same mind set of not worrying if we had a rail or if a line didn't go just right, I was there just to have fun. Boy did I have fun. It was a challenging course and it was the first time all year that I was able to let Azul go and start to be able to ride forward to the jumps. Azul lead from the start to finish winning by 10 points! Talk about what a great way to end the year. Congrats to everyone as there were so many great rides!!

American Eventing Championships
Five of us made the long trip down to Texas for this years AEC. It was so worth the drive. Grace and Hannah dominated their beginner novice divisions laying down dressage scores of 23 to sit on top of both of their divisions. Hannah put in an excellent xc round and Grace confronted her demons from the area champs and rode Dreamer brilliantly around the course for a clear round. Eventing sure has it's up and downs and both girls went into show jumping having to go clear, but sadly each of them had an unlucky rail. Having rails down the last day is part of the sport but I was so proud of how the girls handled themselves. Congrats to both for such an amazing year! Hayley Clark finished 4th in a big Junior Training division ending on her personal best score of 28.2 I know she was thrilled to have finally broken into the 20s!! Go Benny. Azul was a rock star in all three phases and we slowly snuck up the ladder from 4th to finish reserve champion. He has finally grown into himself and after the award ceremony he has quite full of himself and strutted all the way back to the barns. He is such a goober as Susie would say. This was also a bitter sweet AEC as it was Cynthia and Vote Yes's last event together. Although the dressage judges didn't like the way Hampton went in the white sand box, Cynthia came out with happy tears and was just living the moment all weekend. Come xc day Hampton was more then pumped and Cynthia and him cruised around the course with ease. I will miss seeing that big red horse galloping across the field. They have really come together this year and it was so neat seeing all of their progress. I will enjoy watching Hampton compete at the lower levels with a junior rider and I can't wait to see what Cynthia can do with her next little chestnut!

2014 Area IV Championships
This years Area IV Championships were at Otter Creek Farm in Wheeler, Wisconsin. This was Julie's first outing with Michaela Holcomb's horse Cloud Nine. Leo answered everyone of Julie's questions and put together three good rides to finish 1st in a competitive Preliminary group. Azul was his fancy self for dressage and lead from start to finish to bring home the championship ribbon in the Novice division. This was also Camryn Holcomb's first attempt at training level with her mare Scully's Irish Ellie and they showed everyone they were up for the challenge finishing on their dressage score to finish 2nd!

2014 Eventing 25 Training Sessions
JWE started out 2014 by heading down to Ocala, Florida to participate in the USEA/USEF Eventing 25 Program's training sessions. Julie and Michaela packed the trailer along with, Azul (Buenos Suerte), Aires, and Michaela's horse Leo. The pair plan to stay in the Florida area after the training sessions to learn as much as they can and, of course, show.
